The Galliford Try, Costain, Atkins (GCA) Joint Venture are currently working on behalf of United Utilities (UU) at Buffalo Court in Salford, Manchester. As part of this main contract Franklyn Yates Engineering have been awarded the mechanical works as described below.
Brief Outline of the Project
The project briefly comprises the following elements: -
Screening of spill flows up to and including a 1 in 5 year storm event from both the SAL0071 and SAL0172 CSO Diversion chamber and connection channels to direct flows into and out of the detention tank
Provision of 1 No. 4,500m3 detention tank storage downstream of the CSO's prior to the outfall into the Manchester Ship Canal
Automated detention tank screen wash system
Automated detention tank base cleaning system
Automated transfer and scavenger pumps together with associated rising mains to empty the detention tank
Scope of Works & Responsibilities
The Works consist of the design, specification, manufacture, supply, un/witnessed works inspection and testing, delivery, off-loading, secure storage, on-site materials / equipment handling and lifting, positioning, installation, valve tagging, equipment asset labelling, pipework banding, lagging / cladding banding, on-site testing and commissioning and 'as-built' drawings of all installed equipment (and marked up 'for construction' drawings indicating as-built changes) of all necessary equipment to provide the complete Mechanical Installation at each work face.

The specific requirements stated below highlight the areas of work to be carried out under the Franklyn Yates Sub-Contract and summarises the requirements.
Detention Tank
Survey, Design, Manufacture, Supply, Installation and Testing of the following:-
1 No. 1200NB dropper pipe - scotchcoated (WIMES 4.01 compliant) carbon steel tube and fittings
1 No. 700mm diameter GRP vent stack
2 No. 350NB storm return pump rising mains - scotchcoated (WIMES 4.01 compliant) carbon steel tube and fittings
1 No. 200NB scavenger pump rising main - scotchcoated (WIMES 4.01 compliant) carbon steel tube and fittings
1 No. 150NB 'tremmie' pipe - scotchcoated (WIMES 4.01 compliant) carbon steel c/w bauer coupling
All full face gaskets and bolt sets
All pipework supports, flange adaptors, flexible couplings and U-bolts associated with the above scope
Installation of the following free issue equipment:-
2 No. storm return pumps including guiderails, chains and duckfoot bends
1 No. scavenger pump including guiderails, chains and duckfoot bend
1 No. 'STEM Drive' fluidic mixer plus associated fittings
All pipework supports, flange adaptors, flexible couplings and U-bolts associated with the above scope
Valve Chamber
Survey, Design, Manufacture, Supply, Installation and Testing of the following:-
1 Set - 350NB storm return pump piping and fittings - ductile iron (BS EN 598)
1 Set - 200NB scavenger pump piping and fittings - ductile iron (BS EN 598)
3 Sets - 1' PVC-U air release/drain piping
All full face gaskets and bolt sets
All pipework supports, flange adaptors, flexible couplings and U-bolts associated with the above scope
Installation of the following free issue equipment:-
