Franklyn Yates Engineering has been contracted by Mott Macdonald Bentley (MMB) to complete the upgrade of Rushmoor Sewage Treatment Works near Telford.
There are multiple drivers for the investment in Rushmoor STW, namely Growth, Quality and Capital Maintenance (including extension of the sludge route); however, the main driver for this project is the predicted growth of Telford, approximately 75% of which drains to Rushmoor. The Main Treatment Works is being expanded which requires the pumps for the sludge and storm flows to be revised in line with new requirements.
The current population equivalent (PE) for the STW site is approximately 99,000 but this is forecast to rise to approximately 200,000. The growth in the Rushmoor catchment comes from two sources:-
• Domestic growth planned by Telford & Wrekin council
• NOM Dairy (a yoghurt manufacturer)
The Primary Sludge is to be pumped direct to the screens bypassing the current route leaving the sludge well for scum handling
The scope of works under this project is to replace the existing various pumps, valves, flow meters, mixers and pipe work at various places across the site.
All testing and commissioning to be carried out to Severn Trent Water standards
All works had to be completed to the agreed method statement, risk assessments and internal test plans. A weekly progress report was sent to the client informing them of the current status and programme adherence.
