Innovation Award IETThe IET Innovation Awards 2009, East Midlands – recognises and rewards seven unique innovations in engineering, science and technology

The 2009 IET Innovation Awards 2009 – East Midlands region has been an incredible success. From the numerous entries generated, seven finalists were identified by judging panel.

The awards presentation took place on Thursday 2nd July at the Rockingham Festival, where the awards, sponsored by Northamptonshire Enterprise were presented to the worthy finalists.

The winning entry came from Greenbank Group UK of Derby, whose Clean Coal Technology Products can measure and optimise coal distribution to coal-fired boilers to significantly reduce emissions.

The “Highly Commended” entries were: “EASYLIFT” – safe, versatile, portable lifting equipment, developed by ITT Water and Wastewater UK; “ORBITA” – an innovative, intelligent solution for train maintenance and operation; and a highly efficient process for the exfoliation of vermiculite from the University of Nottingham.

Commended entries came from Ocean Navitas – The Aegir Dynamo, a mechanical wave energy converter; BAE Systems – A systems framework for Integrated Vehicle Health Management and Advisory Systems for Uninhabited Air Vehicles and Coriel - Smartdrum™ - RFID Tagging of Cable Drums to Benefit the Environment and Profiability.

Graham Mulholland of EPM Technology and a Fellow of the IET, was proud to be able to recognise reward such unique innovations from the region and encouraged all of the finalists to go on and generate even further recognition both for the innovations and for the region.
